DESCRIPTION & OVERALL GOAL
The purpose of this training is to strengthen providers’ knowledge of TB diagnosis, treatment, and management. The conference will provide an opportunity to discuss current and emerging issues in TB, as well as perspectives for the resolution of challenges in the management of complex TB cases. Topics will include local epidemiology, the diagnosis and treatment of TB infection, managing drug resistant TB, refugee health and TB, access to regional resources and a panel discussion of health department services. The format will include a combination of lectures and panel discussions.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This conference is designed for healthcare providers who are involved in the diagnosis, treatment and management of persons with latent TB infection and disease. Physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, public health nurses, and others working in TB prevention and care are welcome to attend.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:
- Interpret local and global epidemiological trends to better screen and treat groups at high risk for tuberculosis;
- Apply current recommendations for assessing risk, testing and treating TB infection to prevent development of disease
- Integrate principles for the diagnosis, treatment and management of TB disease to prevent transmission and drug resistance
- Discuss patient-centered care approaches for addressing the challenges of managing patients with complex clinical and social issues, such as refugees; and
- Describe available resources and best practices for the diagnosis, treatment and management of routine and complex TB cases.
